Bank of America History

The inception of Bank of America was done on July 5, 1874 when its earliest predecessor, the Massachusetts Bank was opened for business with John Hancock as its Governor. Today's Bank of America was formed in the late 20th century as a result of a series of acquisitions done by North Carolina Bank (NCNB).

A milestone was laid in 1855 with the establishment of first bank in Seattle, which marked the beginning of BofA SeaFirst Line. The direct lineage of the bank began in Charlotte with the foundation of Commercial National Bank in 1874. The bank of Italy changed the picture and ultimately led to the formation of the Bank of America on November 3, 1930.
