SBI Kisan Credit Card
|India is known to be an agrarian economy. 70% of our food is produced by the farmers. A farmer has to meet numerous credit obligations like production credit needs contingency expenses, and expenses related to ancillary activities and sometimes it has also been seen that the farmers are unwilling to adopt new technologies in farming due to the huge burden of credit. Keeping this in mind the State Bank of India came out with the SBI Kisan credit card scheme so that the farmers can very easily and timely meet all their credit requirements and take various short term and long term agricultural loans. The card is mainly issued to the villages of states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab which accounts for about 98% of the production of crops in India. Using the card a farmer can take a loan up to a maximum period of three years. Not only this, farmers can get an insurance protection of a minimum amount of Rs.25000 and a maximum amount of Rs.50000 incase of death or permanent disability.
To be eligible for the SBI Kisan Credit card a farmer needs to qualify the following eligibility criteria that are given below:
- The borrower should be a tenant cultivator, owner cultivator or a share cropper.
- They should have a good credit track record since the last two years.
- Borrowers who are creditworthy are also eligible for this loan.
Kisan Credit Card Agricultural Loan from SBI
Farmers can apply for the credit card by filling up an application form either by contacting their nearest State Bank of India branches that provides agricultural advance or they can also speak with the marketing officers of the bank who visit the villages from time to time. Before applying for the loan the farmer should make sure that they have the proper land holding details with them, a guarantor for the loan, project report along with the plan and estimation, photo and address along with the search report. The agricultural loan is secured by the hypothecation of the farmer’s crops and given below is the chart for the various loan amounts and the hypothecation of crops against it.

Farmers those who want to borrow agricultural loans up to Rs 1 lac and legally own agricultural land along with a good track record since the last 2 years are not required to hypothecate either their crops or agricultural land.

Given below is the table for the interest rates that will be applied on the agricultural loan taken through the SBI Kisan Credit card. For production or crop loans taken up to Rs 3 lacs an interest rate of 7% will be charged as per the rules of the Government of India
